2026 February Minutes

Call to order at 8:35am

A meeting of The Park Rd Association  was held at Playhouse on Park on February 19, 2026.

Co-Presidents Welcome 

  • Update on grease theft – perpetrators arrested within a few hours of the incident. Kudos to the Police Dept for quick and efficient action.

Town Reports: 

Police Department – Officer Eden

  • The Flock System that is integrated with cameras in various towns. A camera in Cromwell found the van, and perpetrators were caught in the act of stealing grease from another restaurant.

  • Penguin Plunge Special Olympics fundraiser rescheduled for March.

  • College Academy summer program applications are open.

  • Hired three new officers, one transfer from another department and two headed to the Academy.

  • Snow removal has been a significant challenge. Residents may call in issues with sidewalks and driveways not yet cleared and PD will step in to address.

Economic Development – Kristen Gorski

  • River Bend Bookshop is moving from 161 Park to 224 Park in March. Specifics will be announced as permits and work are completed.

  • Park & South Main St former Dogology location to become GT Café.

  • Iron Horse permitting underway to build out second floor space.

  • Former Plan B space has a new lease – Nick & Paige Chamberlain opening Spitz Mediterranean Street Food franchise. Will be seeking a liquor permit for the site.

  • Oxford Realty purchased former Oakwood Package Store (near connector on Kane Street). Renovate into office space.

  • Shark Bite space has a prospective renter, still working on details of renovation and lease.

  • Saturday, Feb 28 1-4pm Town Hall Auditorium 3rd Annual Black Business Expo. In partnership with WHAASCO. Featuring 25 businesses located in West Hartford.

  • Supporting Women’s Small Business Breakfast on March 19th,  9-11:30am Town Hall Auditorium in honor of Women’s History Month. Moderated by Adrienne Billings-Smith.

  • Vessel Technologies housing developer 29 Highland has been under contract for two years. In January the Town denied application to demolish and build  5-story, 120 unit building. Vessel has submitted a new plan.

Town Council – Barry Walters

  • Resident requested an ordinance on RV and Boat parking on private property. West Hartford has never permitted. Council declined the request, but it may be resubmitted with refinement.

  • West Hartford Pride on June 27 at Town Hall. Vendor applications are now open. Check Facebook page for link.

  • Tracy’s Pride Ride – in honor of Dr. Wilson - to be held on June 11.

Chamber of Commerce – Chris Conway

  • Great Economic Development Forum this year! Available on the Chamber YouTube channel.

  • PM Connections featuring heart health in the workplace was well attended, also available to stream.

  • Be sure to register for events as soon as you see them, most do sell out.

  • 4th Annual Black History Month Breakfast. Featuring conversation called A Century of Black History Celebrations. Thursday 8-9:30 at Noah Webster Library.

  • Next PM Connections with CT Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas – 3/5 5:30-7 at Bishops Corner Senior Center.

  • State of the Town address to be held on April 15, 5:30-7:30 at the Mandell JCC in the Theater. Chuck Coursey will be moderating a conversation between Mayor Cantor and Town Manager Rick Ledwith.

 

Playhouse on Park

  • The Mountaintop opens March 3. Show takes place the evening before the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, after his Mountaintop speech.

  • Encore to be held on June 13. Seeking silent auction items.


Park Road Committees

  • Street Clean Up typically scheduled near Earth Day.
